Michelle Chong is known as one of Singapore’s most versatile and bilingual artistes and an award-winning multi-hyphenate who has hosted and acted in countless English and Chinese television programmes. Arguably Singapore’s top female comic, she won over the hearts of Singaporeans with her hilarious, nuanced characters in The Noose, an Emmy-nominated satirical comedy series.
Not contented with just being in front of the camera, in 2011, Michelle produced, wrote, directed and starred in her own movie, Already Famous, which became one of the top 10 highest-grossing Chinese movies in Singapore that year and was selected to be Singapore’s entry for the Best Foreign Language Oscar at the 85th Academy Awards (Oscars) in 2013.
In 2013, Michelle produced and directed her second movie, 3 Peas in a Pod – a coming-of-age road trip movie filmed in Australia which won rave reviews.
Her third movie, Lulu The Movie, launched in Nov 2016 and hit over S$2 million at the box office in around one month and with less than 30 print counts, making it one of the top 6 Chinese movies with the highest box office in Singapore.
Within a span of five years after leaving the TV station, she set up her own film and TV production company, Huat Films, artiste management agency, Left Profile. Her tenacity and talent makes her arguably Singapore’s most prized entertainer and now, entrepreneur, as she hopes to inspire more Singaporeans to pursue their passion and follow their dreams.
